Rotary evaporator are usually used in the experiments of synthesis, separation, extraction and purification. The unique rotary evaporators design greatly increases its additional efficiency. Now they are widely used in the pilotscale and small-scale experiments in the laboratory. The whole machine has good sealing performance. It can be vacuumized by connecting a vacuum pump to make the whole equipment in a negative pressure state, which can not only reduce the temperature required for material evaporation, but also effectively inhibit the explosion and boiling of some materials. Today, I will share with you how to use the rotary evaporator to extract plant essential oils.
We take the extraction of celery leaf essential oil as an example. In the whole process of the experiment, we need to use rotating evaporator, electric thermostatic blast dryers, recirculating chiller and circulating water vacuum pumps. After our preliminary preparations have been completed, the next step is to carry out the extraction process. First, we wash the celery leaves, place them in a ventilated place for natural air drying for 48 hours, and then put them into an electric constant temperature air dryer for 24 hours under the condition of 25 ℃. When the time is up, we take out the dried celery leaves and cut them with scissors. After soaking, we can put them into the rotary evaporator for experiments. According to the orthogonal experimental method, we took the ratio of material to liquid, soaking time and distillation time as three factors, and then set up three horizontal points from each factor for experiments. Finally, we concluded that the best conditions for extracting celery leaf essential oil were: the ratio of material to liquid 1 : 8, soaking time 0.5hour and distillation time 3hour.
